Jumptage

How To Practice Your Halo 3 Sniping

How To Practice Your Halo 3 Sniping - On Construct, in the area where the default sword is, you have a small area with thin edges where you're able to look out into the 'forbidden' area' where when you jump off you'll fall to your death.

If you look, you can see these small like "robot-things" flying around into their repetitive destination. Anyways, if you were to have a custom game, with default sniper and unlimited ammo, you could sit on the edge and try and kill as many of the flying robots as you can [Yes, when you hit them they blow up, and they MUST be enemies since your reticule turns red once you get your cross hairs on them].

It's pretty good, and I've been doing it for a bit now and have seen a pretty good outcome in better sniping. It's good and lets you practice learning to follow your enemy better [since they fly up] and somewhat helps you have a better sense at aiming for the head [since the robots are relatively small that they could have the same hitbox, or a bit more, as a spartan helmet]. A video example can be seen here. (contributed by: DumbItDown, added November 9, 2007)

Halo 3 Tips

The best way to stay alive is to kill your enemy before he\she kills you. "How do I ensure that I kill my opponent?" you might ask. Here are a few tips that me and my buddies in Iraq have been perfecting. Some of which are on this site but have not been fully\specifically explain as it pertains to the main weapon of Halo 3, the Battle rifle.

  1. Battle Rifles are a must. (if you perfect your aiming skill you can use this weapon effectively at any range). Head shots are a must.
  2. The Battle rifle shoots in three round bursts, so use that to your advantage.
  3. If your targeted enemy is long range, remember to lead with your reticle. In doing so your target will actually run into your rounds. Think of it as placing your rounds down range and allowing your target to hit them. If your reticle is on your target's head then by the time your rounds get down range your target will be out of that AO (Area of Operation).
  4. KEEP YOUR RETICLE AT HEAD LEVEL (it affords you those extra milliseconds of time). Doing this will allow you to use the left thumb stick to strafe while acquiring the head shot. Experts at aiming will use the left and right thumb stick in conjunction and still be able to keep the reticle at head level.
  5. When going around corners into a larger area, use the right thumb stick to sweep the whole area AT HEAD LEVEL. Experts at aiming will automatically be able to stop the sweep on their enemy's head. Not an expert and can't stop on their head? Then remember that you can fan out those three bullets by pulling the trigger while moving the reticle.
  6. When going up or down a ramp KEEP THE RETICLE AT HEAD LEVEL!
  7. When you come across hallways or any long range area, zoom in (push the right thumb stick). Remember to keep your reticle at head level, sweep the area, and then sweep any elevated areas remembering to keep your reticle head at level for those areas.
  8. While in close quarters (say about 15 meters) you can effectively head shot any opponent while in mid-air.
  9. To do this you should try jumping in a strafing pattern allowing your reticle to cross the path of their head. Basically the only thumb stick that you should have to move while in mid-air is the right thumb stick. Moving the left thumb stick will do nothing as you cannot alter your direction of travel.
  10. Jumping toward cover affords you both defense and offense as you will soon be an expert at head shots.
  11. If you cannot make it to cover or there is no room to strafe jump (such as in a corridor) and you must jump, ALWAYS jump TOWARDS your enemy. Jumping away from your enemy makes you vulnerable to a grenade as most players tend to throw them past their opponents. It sounds foolish, but if you are an expert at aiming you will head shot then every time. If you are not an expert at aiming then just use the right thumb stick to move your reticle down, not the left thumb stick as you can not alter your direction of travel while in mid-air. Remember, the battle rifle shoots three bullets at at time, so you can allow your jumping motion to force your reticle onto their head. If executed properly you shouldn't have to move your reticle much at all.
  12. At long range it is best to use the left stick to move your reticle left or right so you can lead the target better. Also, if you are higher in elevation you can use the left thumb stick to move your reticle up and down. Using the right thumbstick tends to be jerky or choppy at long range. Using the left thumb stick is a smoother and more controlled way to move your reticle for those long range targets.
  13. Coming around corners is always a sticky situation but here is a better way to do it. Hug the corner as you turn it, keeping your reticle head level. This will keep your enemy from getting behind you.
  14. With shields off all you have to do is pull the trigger once and then melee. Do this if your enemy is turning the corner at the same time you are and traveling towards you (remember that most people will hug the corners to but only because that us human nature, they are not doing it for the same reasons you are).

Halo 3 No-scoping

I read this great article on no-scoping for Halo 3.

Halo 3 No-scoping

From halowiki.net

No-scoping is not something that a typical player can pull off at will. And even for those who have mastered it, it's a skill that's not always something you can rely on. In any case, no-scoping can be essential in giving yourself those precious milliseconds that could either mean life or death. And in some cases, victory or defeat.

No-scope

What are the benefits of no-scoping? The fact that the Sniper Rifle can practically replace the shot-gun or mauler for close range combat. And not just that, it adds to your style of play as well as giving you bragging rights. Think about it, the sniper rifle takes 2 shots to kill a person. If you could take advantage of two shots, your in for a lot of quick kills. Plus, it has longer range than a shotgun or a mauler. You don't have to blast away with your shot gun, hoping you would kill him before he kills you. You can change that with a simple no-scope. That's what makes this skill an efficient skill, even if its not one of the more reliable skill.

How To's to No-scoping

It's possible to be spontaneously good at no-scoping, but it's better if you could do it at any given time. It's a lot simpler once you're able to grasp the concept and apply. But even for a master, it's by no means an easy skill to use.

There are ways to simplify no-scoping. And there are also ways to make it easier for yourself

  • First and foremost, have a lot of confidence. Don't think before hand that you will miss, otherwise you WILL miss.
  • Be unconscious of the fact that your going to no-scope. Try to apply the same mentality as you do with the BR or a scoped sniper.
  • Establish a relative point for your cross hair to aim at. It's easier to hit somebody if you have an idea where you want it.
  • Using your strafes to help your aim will make no-scoping easier for some.
  • Read your opponents movements. Aiming a few pixels ahead will increase your chances of nailing the kill.
  • Understand your opponents moment. Understanding how your opponent moves in relation to your cross-hair will help you know where to aim.
  • Envision yourself doing it. If you can't see yourself no-scoping, chances are you won't be no-scoping anybody.
  • YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET A HEAD SHOT KILL TO BE GOOD AT NO-SCOPING

That's as far as I can explain.

Observe Other Players

I haven't done this, but I know others have learned how to no-scope from watching my replays. You just have to observe how that person moves and where the cross hair is at when he/she fires his/her gun. So, I will show you all the same video and I hope it will help some of you.

NOTE: You have to have a Bungie.net log-in and a linked gamertage to download this file into your XB360

Not everything is done perfectly, but its sufficient enough to show you how to no-scope. There are other videos out there, so if you have one feel free to post it here using the format that I used for my video.

Authors Notes

I recommend using slow sensitivities. But I use seven since I can can nail targets at wider angels at a much faster rate. I use seven for everything but I don't recommend it for most of you. Use a sensitivity that's comfortable for you. I've mastered everything from 1-10, so I know that a persons ability to aim is not that much affected by sensitivity "apart from super close or super far range battles". The best thing to do is to simply understand what you have to do to aim better. Look at where you shoot at and think before you shoot. That is, if you're trying to improve. A millisecond of thought will CERTAINLY give you more remaining ammo, less deaths, and more and faster kills. So give it a shot. I hope that you all will find no-scoping to be a fun and exciting skill to use.

Discussion

  • Shotty Snipers in Matchmaking is a good place to practice your no scopes. - IxCarbonxI
  • The no-scope beatdown is very effective in close combat situations as well. -- PhoZZyyy
  • I consider a good practice is an infection game snipers only on a small map to really help, since you get used to no-scoping fast running zombies. Slow sensitivity is also a good idea but takes a few seconds to switch in mid-game, especially ranked. -- Emerging Impure
